How to make play dough
2 cups flour
1 cup salt
2 cups water
1 tbsp. baby oil
2 tbsp. cream of tartar
liquid food coloring
Combine dry ingredients. Mix food colouring and water together, add them to the dry ingredients . Stir well.
Microwave on high 4 to 5 minutes. Stir again. Microwave another minute. Stir. Continue to microwave one minute,
then stir, until dough is the consistency of mashed potatoes. Cool it for 15 minutes to half an hour, made sure its
cool enough to touch. If dough is too wet, let it air dry a bit longer. Store dough in air tight container or zip-lock bag
Cooking and drying the play dough
Air dry for only small and thin objects. The objects will dry within a week. Make sure they are dry before painting
If the object air dried a little, start cooking at 50°C. After baking it for 30 minutes, gently increase up to 100°C.
Then you have to estimate the cooking time, the thicker the object, the longer it needs to dry! Make sure you
rotate or turn the object around in the middle of baking, so that all side can dry.
For each centimeter, count roughly 2 hours at 100°C. Check out from time to time your object, it should sound
hollow if it is well cooked!
The best thing to do is to cook the object at once (thus at a constant temperature) in order to prevent cracks due
to the cold/hot variation.
